If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for you!
Obviously, I am a huge advocate for the health benefits of Pilates and have seen this gentle but effective exercise increase mobility, reduce pain and beautifully tone many bodies. I am also happy to report that Pilates has had a real resurgence of popularity in the fitness routines of celebrities. From focusing on core strength to improving general wellbeing; Pilates is the exercise of choice for countless stars.
Singer Adele used Reformer Pilates (this uses machines to increase resistance and perform exercises in many different body positions) to tone her body and lose weight. Kate Bosworth credits Pilates, as the reason behind her body transformation and fellow Australian actress, Margot Robbie is also a huge fan of Pilates and Reformer Pilates, explaining that ‘It’s what works for my body,’.
Goldie Hawn’s actress daughter Kate Hudson also uses Pilates and Reformer Pilates to stay in shape. She found it especially beneficial after the birth of her daughter to regain tone in the abdominal area and get rid of the pouch that many of us Mummies develop. After the birth of her second child, Holly Willoughby also took up Pilates, with a teacher who is renowned for sculpting Sophie Dahl and Elizabeth Hurley’s amazing physiques too.
So Why is Pilates So Amazing?
Pilates (and other types of resistance training like band work) improves posture, strengthens the core and sculpts our smaller muscles to make you look fit and toned. Whilst high intensity exercises like boxing and spinning are good for weight loss, they don’t necessarily change your shape. With Pilates, you’ll develop a lovely streamlined look, which will be toned from top-to-toe.
Resistance work is extremely effective at maintaining a youthful body. I especially recommend it for people who struggle with back issues, have had surgery and people who spend long periods sat at a desk. It corrects poor posture whilst firming, toning and building endurance, which you can’t get from cardio alone. Whilst you’ll burn more calories with cardio, Pilates will shape, sculpt and strengthen your body. Perfect for the bikini season!
There are different types of Pilates, including mat-based workouts, which can incorporate weights and Reformer Pilates which uses a machine. Whichever style you choose, if weight loss is your main goal you’ll need to take a balanced approached, with some cardio exercise for heart health and a nutritious diet. Why not give it a go and try it at one of my friendly and fun classes. I can also provide you with full dietary advice. What have you got to lose?!
Hope to see you soon.
