10 reasons you need it in your life!
1. ITS INCLUSIVE
Pilates is a fantastic form of inclusive fitness that is accessible to all from the octogenarian to the elite athlete and everyone in between. This is the unlikely image of London Irish rugby team taking part in their regular Pilates session where they have found it helps better align their bodies so they can absorb impact better and therefore avoid injury. On the other end of the spectrum Pilates helps elderly people get stronger and more balanced on their feet to prevent falls and ultimately bone breaks that can lead to more morbidity.

2. BETTER POSTURE
It will improve your posture so you look taller and thinner without any weight loss at all. In addition it will resolve any of the pain associated with poor posture such as neck and shoulder tension and low back pain. One of the main principles of Pilates is to realign the body from the head down. The head is super heavy and if its forward of the body, which it often is when we are at a desks or on you phone then the muscles around it will complain. Correcting the head position can have an amazing effect on the rest of the body.

3. IMPROVE BODY AWARENESS
It will enhance your body awareness so that you have better control of your body and your joints. You will supercharge the mind to muscle connection that will improve your balance and decrease you overall risk of injuries. This benefit will also highlight the areas you specifically need to work on such as weak glutes or one-sided imbalances. In the video I am strengthening one hamstring and buttock whilst having to balance so great for the core too!
4. ENERGISES YOU
5. AMAZING FOR WOMENS HEALTH
Pilates saved me after 2 difficult pregnancy’s where I suffered with symphysis pubis dysfuction (SPD) and diastasis recti (DR) resulting in a hernia. I learnt to how to strengthen my deep core muscles so that my pelvis and back were stable and my Sacro-Iliac (SI)joint pain disappeared.

6. GET TONED & STRONG
Pilates is a great form of resistance training that will sculpt and shape your body without making it bulky and immobile. Using bands, light hand weights and body weight exercises Pilates can really give you the shape you desire. This is one of my classes from my subscription site where I use band to seriously shape the bum!

7. IMROVE JOINT MOBILITY & MUSCLE FLEXIBILITY
8. IMPROVES YOUR CORE STABILITY TO BULLETPROOF YOUR BACK
9. ENHANCES SPORTS PERFORMANCE
If you want to run faster, hit further, swim more efficiently or cycle for longer than Pilates could really be the answer. Many professional sports people take part in Pilates to improve an aspect of their game or discipline. For example many Rugby players include Pilates in their preseason training to improve coordination, speed, agility, flexibility and to strengthen the core and prevent common overuse injuries. Whatever your sport Pilates has a way to make you better at and prevent the potential injuries where you have weaknesses. Andy Murray is huge advocate of Pilates and believe it has played a major role in his comeback after both of his major surgeries.

10. ITS TIME EFFICIENT
If your short on time and aren’t we all? Then Pilates can be an excellent way to get maximum bang for your buck when your exercising. In my classes we focus on not just strengthening the core and improving mobility but also we get our heart rates up and add weights and other equipment to strengthen and shape the body from the outside in. Pilates really is a whole body fitness regime and every exercise is a multi tasker to the max!
